Following the dream

Karen, a finance associate in a magic circle firm, was increasingly finding the practice of law to be dry and boring. She recognised she was motivated by some aspects of the business world, but needed to be doing something that she was interested in or passionate about. She had thought about management consultancy, but her dream was to work in the arts world.

Through personality profiling she became clearer about what mattered to her and identified the fields of marketing and PR as likely to be most interesting. She recognised that autonomy and working with quality institutions and people were still important values. Through a series of rehearsed meetings she identified the role of corporate development manager in a prestigious arts institution as being her ideal long-term goal. Following coaching in application procedures and interview skills for such roles, she was thrilled to be offered a role in a leading community theatre combining corporate and community affairs.
